Community Advisory: Met Gala “call to action”

The following information is being provided for your situational awareness:

CSI has been made aware that a social media campaign promoted by Within Our Lifetime – United for Palestine (WOL) urging recipients to “Surround the Met Gala for Gaza and Palestine” tomorrow at 3 pm. The group further encourages participants to “Converge at the RED LINE…as close as you can get.”

The Met Gala will take place tomorrow, Monday, May 5th, at 6 pm at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, located at 1000 Fifth Avenue.

During last year’s Gala, protesters mobilized around the Upper East Side, confronting potential Gala attendees and other pedestrians. While there was no violence associated with this activity, it can nonetheless lead to a very unpleasant experience.

While there will be a strong NYPD presence at and around The Met, CSI suggests that you avoid the area unless you are attending the event or have a valid reason to be there in the hours leading up to and during the event. Those who are passing through the area later tomorrow should travel in groups when possible and maintain heightened situational awareness.
