Istanbul: Three terrorists killed in shooting near Israeli consulate

(A7) Initial reports from Istanbul, Turkey, indicate a shooting incident occurred a short time ago in the Levent neighborhood, near the Israeli consulate.

According to updated details from the scene, a trio of armed men opened fire near the Israeli consulate compound.

Turkish security forces, already stationed to provide signiicant additional layers of security around the Israeli consulate, responded within seconds with live fire of their own.

An intense exchange of fire ensued, in the course of which the local police and security guards managed to subdue the three armed men. According to the latest reports, tne three shooters were killed in the exchange of fire with the security forces.

Turkish security forces succeeded in subduing the remaining shooter and arrested him at the scene.

The Foreign Ministry said there were no casualties among the mission’s staff, and that the consulate building itself was not damaged. The Ministry later clarified that the building was not occupied at the time

It was also reported that all Israeli staff underwent briefing and safety instructions in accordance with the procedures common to such incidents.
